The Founder

My name is Nicholas Eng and I am a high school student. Volunteerism runs deep in my family. My father, a physician, has volunteered his time serving at the Brooklyn Free Clinic, treating the indigent and uninsured. He has served on the New York City Medical Reserve Corps for many years, volunteering during Hurricane Sandy and the Covid-19 pandemic. Ever since I was very young, my parents have brought me and my sister to the soup kitchen and have shown us, by example, the importance of giving back. My older sister particularly enjoys working in youth literacy, teaching young child to read. She has been the co-president of her school’s Soup Kitchen.

Over the past few years I have volunteered at Metropolitan Hospital, Lenox Hill Neighborhood House as well as the soup kitchen at St. Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church. I have combined my interest of technology and volunteerism. At Lenox Hill I have taught senior citizens about technology and at Metropolitan Hospital I helped to manage databases for the infection control department and designed graphs and performed data analysis for infection control protocols.

I have been fortunate growing up in NYC, never going hungry even when so many around me do. To me, volunteering gives me a sense of purpose, gratitude, and satisfaction. In the end, when I volunteer, I get back more than I give.
